looking at some of the posts I see quite a few people saying they get a pain in the side. I get this but put it down to taking so many painkillers upsetting my stomach. Any info anyone may have regarding this type of pain would be helpful

Hi Alison,

I have had tonnes of pains in my side, it's been a nightmare because its a massive part of the pain I get, but Dr's don't want to know.

After my recent lap where I begged they double check the area, I was told "your bowels were very badly stuck down to your ovary on the right side but we didn't find anything where your pain is in your side"

Now the pain in my right side is a tight pulling pain, just below my ribs, so to me, they did find the problem, if my bowel was stuck to my ovary, I'm thinking it was that giving me the pulling sensation higher up.

Obviously endo can easily spread this far, particularly if you've had any burst cysts, but it's doesn't always mean that's where the damage is.

I'm still not 100% convinced there's no endo further up but I guess only time will tell now.

My consultant has now advised I try out a gluten free diet... I think I might just so I can shut them up and rule it out!!

Basically all you can do is rule out everything else before anyone is likely to listen to you regarding endo pain.

although another thing you can try is the hormone treatments, my pain in my side almost disapeared when I was sent into a menopausal state, which did make my gynea listen a little more.

Good Luck n Take Care

Hi Laura

Thank you very much for your reply, it is really helpful.

I am already gluten free. because I was getting nowhere with docs I had been working with a nutritional/allergy expert privately and she diagnosed me with candida. Problem was whenever I stopped the anti-fungal treatments (but continued with diet) all problems including pain came back so she decided that there must be something else going on that was stopping me from dealing with candida and hence me now being down the endo route. My consultant has agreed with this and said while I have endo candida will basically keep coming back.

What i couldn't work out though is how they check other areas during a laparoscopy - I can see how they can check ovaries/bowels and bladder but couldn't really understand how they could check further away...so again your email is very helpful and I will discuss with my consultant.

Hope you find a solution

Regards

Alyson

Glad I can be of some help.... also, just to note, I had 4 incisions from my most recent lap which may have helped them look.

The usual 2- belly button & directly below and then an incision on each side... basically ended up with the diamond formation on my stomach (hoping the boyfriend is more interested now.. he really can think of England Very Happy ).

Also VERY interesting what you say about candida, I struggle with yeast infections ALL THE TIME- both oral and downstairs!!! I've never linked this with Endo.

Does being Gluten Free help you.... You must have alot of will power!

It's more than just gluten. Basically no yeast or fungus or sugar, so no mushroom, sugar, wheat (or any grain but rice), fruit, booze, anything smoked, peas, vinegar, sweet potato, parsnip, milk or cream or any aged cheese (so basically just soft cheese and edam etc)

plus anti-fungals (nystatin)

Yes it helped but only while taking nystatin, when i stopped it all came back and I have also had real problems with weight too

Yes pain in your side can certainly be a part of endo.

Where abouts in your side is the pain - left, right, high up, low down?

Really if you have endo and you get pain anywhere from your shoulders to down your legs it could be related to the endo - this may sound severe but it doesn't mean that if you get shoulder pain the endo is in your shoulders. Many people suffer from referred pain - i.e. the pain actually occurs in the pelvis but is felt in the shoulders. This is why many women who miscarry have pains in the shoulders rather than abdomen. Also pain can be felt shooting down the legs if you have endo around the siatic nerve. As well as that endo in the pouch of douglass or on the uterosacrial ligaments can cause hip pain - obviously your hips are on your side so the pain is often felt in the sides.

If you could go into a bit more detail about where you pain is it will be easier to tell whether it may be endo related and if so where the endo is likely to be located.

Hi

This is really interesting. The pain is just tucked under ribs on right hand side. the main pain in my pelvis is on right hand side. i also have pain in legs, mainly on right hand side and recently have had sciatica too!

Just got call from hospital and got cancellation so am off for pre-op chat on Fri and then Laparoscopy next Thurs.

All the info that has been posted back to me is really helpful and I will chat through these points with consultants before op

Thanks very much!
