Hi Everyone...

So I'm getting closer to my big day.. I've not shut up about it now for some time so think most of you know I have my next Lap on 18th Feb.

This is to try and free my right Ovary which is currently so stuck up with adhesions they can't even see it... basically the right side is one giant sticky mess, bowel included!

My left ovary is cystic and it depends on how well my hormone treatment has worked before they decide what will be done... think they are planning excision tho!

and finally my tubes are all twisted and need straightening out.. they are clear though Smile

Anyway

Based on the sticky mess of my right ovary and the pain I've suffered.. I am 99.9999999% certain that this ovary was once cystic and the cyst burst!!

I know this because I felt the damn thing burst and was kept in hospital for 1 week... even tho they were certain I had nothing but period pains. GRRR... I was certain I was dying, sounds pethetic but I've suffered alot of pain over the years, but this... this was way way off the pain scale.

So at the moment they just don't listen when I tell them what happened.. well at least they don't seem to... so they are currently saying they are going to cut my ovary free etc. etc...

HOWEVER... what I want to know is... what are my chances of waking up with my right ovary in tact if it has ruptured in the past?
I've read alot of stories where people have had ovaries removed as an emergancy because of a ruptured cyst.
But this isn't an emergency... it happened years ago so can they just cut it free and everything be OK or will I loose it??

Has this happened to anyone else?? what happened??

I've got my Pre-Op next Tuesday so will try and get some more answers then, my new consultant is really nice but not had the chance to have a propper chat yet.

I'm starting to whittle and get nervy... thought I'd be fine but dreading it all now!!

You can insist that they leave it unless it is an emergency. Ask them to wake you and discuss it with you, however it will mean further surgery if you need it removing.

It really depends on where and what they find. I am sure they will do the best to save both. I have stage 4 endo and have had it removed from both ovarys and also had several cysts. Currently I still have both, and in Nine laps they have freed my right ovary three times and my left once.

Unfortunatly until they get in there and have a look there is no garantee what they will be able to do.

Sorry I can't be more help,

That does help loads, Thank You!!

Think I was just whittling yesterday (still am a bit) but if you've had this done so many times and still got both ovaries in tact... Then I guess my chances are actually quite good!

I will talk to them properly before, if my ovary is no good at all then they may as well remove it... but if there's a chance of it ever working then I'll want it left where it is...

I can't believe you've had NINE laps to try and free you up and I'm sitting here moaning about my first... think my main problem is that I thought my diagnostic lap hurt, so am dreading waking up this time.

Another quick question, for my diagnostic lap I woke up in EXTREME pain, I could feel every adhesion they'd tugged at... but they never gave me any pain relief until I woke up and started screaming... can I request that they give me some pain relief before I wake up or is this automatic when you've had alot of work done?

Thanks Again,

Laura xx

Usually they give you morphine before they wake you, but you can request another dose as you wake. Generally it is hard for them to gauge just how much you will need until you wake.

Discuss you concerns with the anethetisit (SP?) on the day, he/she is the one that will administer the pain relief.

Hi
a similar situation to me in that they couldn't find my ovary and when i went in for major surgery i didn't know if i would still have any of my bits as lap was too dangerous. if your ovary is damaged it would seem better to remove it as you can still get pregnant with one and its good news that your tubes are clear. i think its the not knowing that drives you mad and i remember it was the first thing i asked when i woke up. i just resigned myself to what will be will be as i was going crazy. all i could do was hope not even to think postive as that would have been too much but just hope.
i wish you all the luck

Thanks for the replies...

It's nice to know it's not just me that thinks like this,. I feel such a pesimist but like you say it's the not knowing.

The consultant shaking his head, tutting and saying how coplicated it is everytime I see him really doesn't help either.

I'm at the hospital today for my pre-op so a big questions day I think.

In terms of the pain relief.. I will be begging that they give me some before I wake as last time was ridiculous.

Thanks again
