My op is booked for 15.3.00, so I only have three weeks to go. I am married and have two teenage children.

I have always had problems with my periods, even when I was a teenager. I had some surgery 9 years ago followed by hormone treatment for a while. It helped a little but now I have a fibroid that has the same mass as a 200 gram jar of coffee! plus some smaller ones.

I have had to wait for 12 months or so before I could have my op because I am very overweight. I have managed to lose 10 kilos and so I hope things will be easier. The bleeding has become so bad that for 3 days each month I have to stay in bed because I constantly flood. I had 6 months respite when I had 'Prostap' injections, and that gave me the chance to exercise and get some weight off. now the effects have worn off, the bleeding is just as bad. Still - only one more period to go! the back pains, and the tender breasts tell me that it is on its way again!

UPDATE: March 2000

I was discharged on wed and I felt wonderful, but then I developed a cough and a cold! My stomach hurts and I feel woozy from the medicines that my GP has given me, but I am sure I will feel better soon

UPDATE: August 2001

I soon recovered from the bronchitis, and was back at work after 12 weeks. I feel fantastic. I wish I had been able to have the Hysterectomy years ago!

I have so much energy, and I wake up each day ready to face anything life throws at me, I had a midline cut - the rest of the ladies in hospital with me all had bikini cuts.

My fibroid was so large ( the size of a melon) that my surgeon couldn't get it out through the smaller cut! The scar has faded really well and I have no discomfort whatever.

Wishing you good health, and happiness.

Margaret.
