Hi everyone, I'm so glad to have finally found somewhere I can talk to people who actually understand and having read some of the stories can I just say how amazingly brave you all are!
I'm 18 and was finally diagnosed with endometriosis two months ago after countless visits to the doctor, being given painkillers and told to 'put up with it'.
I started my periods aged 9 and they have always been heavy and painful. It was only when I was taken in to hospital with agonising pain in my tummy (which was suspected appendicitis).. they discovered the endometriosis and found that I had a large cyst on my right fallopian tube during a Laparoscopy.. I woke up to discover they had removed the whole tube which was a massive shock considering I was expecting to have my appendix taken out!
I was discharged two days later with no information/support about exactly what endometriosis was! I was completely clueless and felt totally confused and devastated; I'd always said I didn't want children but finding out that it might not be possible to conceive completely changed the way I felt.
I have a lovely boyfriend who does his best to support me and wonderful family and friends who try to understand but I think it's impossible to understand the effects of this disease until you suffer with it and I constantly find me and my boyfriend arguing about me 'always being too tired to do anything' but I know he cannot understand how it feels to be in constant pain and always feel shattered!
I visited the doctor again shortly after being discharged just to ask for some advice and information and was given no help at all; went away feeling just as confused as before! I was taken in to hospital again last week with chronic pain in my tummy.. finally saw a doctor who could not have been more supportive and helpful! She gave me some information on the condition and arranged for me to have a Mirena coil fitted and a consultation about the laser surgery to remove endometriosis.
So after another three days in hospital I was discharged. Life has changed more than I could have ever imagined over the past two months and I was wondering if anyone had any advice about the laser surgery as I understand it is not advised if you wish to have children?
Any other help and support would also be appreciated.. I'm feeling pretty alone at the moment!
Thank you.
Caz.
