I found out I had endometriosis two years ago when I had my appendix taken out, I had been suffering with heavy periods from when I first started my periods at 14 and I just put it down to everyone being different and mine were just heavy and painful. I didn’t know anything about endometriosis and had never heard of it before I was diagnosed.

I was referred to a Gynae and he explained it me using all the hospital jargon which didn’t really help me at all! (But reading through some other peoples stories it has helped me understand this a little bit more) He did mention that this could get better once I have children? Not sure if this is right or not? He did mention that if my pain got increasingly worse I could have an operation to remove the clusters (term he used) but said that this is not always proven to be successful and the endo could return.

I can’t go on the pill as I had a suspected blood clot when I was about 16/17 and I was put on Cerazette which gave me an allergic reaction across my back so came off that one as well.

I started getting worse pains in the later part of last week and was woken up yesterday morning in quite a lot of pain around my abdomen so decided to book an appointment with the doctor. I described my symptoms and was worried that it could be something worse but he seems to think it’s just the endo that’s causing the pain and has prescribed me some anti-inflammatories to take for now and if that doesn’t ease the pain at all then I need to go back to be referred to a Gynae.

I’m a bit worried that this is going to affect me being able to have children, I’m getting married next year and me and my partner have planned to start our own family once we’re married. I don’t really know what to do whether I should ask for the surgery or leave it and wait and see if I can conceive next year?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Karina.
