colpermin tablets anyone?

Postby fefe36 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:31 am

Hi ladies,

I've been to my gynae on Monday. I'm getting treated for endo and IBS. I'm taking peppermint oil tablets (colpermin) and combined pill back to back and have a period every 10 weeks. I'm still taking the painkillers. I'll probably have to stop taking the pill before my lap. I'm in so much pain. Is it normal to go to the toilet so much after taking the peppermint oil tablets? I'm shaking, heartburn, burping, feel sick, cramping, bloated, and terrible wind. My stomach is burning too. My bowel feels sore from going so much ouch. I feeling like I'm going to pass out after going to the toilet. I don't know whether it's a reaction but doesn't say much on the leaflet with the colpermin. It's making me feel worse.

I have another gynae appointment next Tuesday for the dreaded internal exam.

I hope you're all having a pain free day.

Sounds like a reaction to the peppermint oil in the tablets, which is quite concentrated. I don't get on with those tablets. I find drinking peppermint or even spearmint tea easier. You could decrease the dose for a bit and let it settle. Sorry you're suffering! How were you before the colpermin? Better? xx

Hello

I was given these last week to help my stomach. I have been taken off all hormone treatments until my next lap in November and believe it or not I have been having the exact same symptoms! I had to work from home on Monday as I was going the loo all the time and having anxiety attacks! I thought it was just my hormones but maybe it was that....I haven't taken it since the weekend and i'm only just feeling okayish. I kept getting a tingling lip too. I am normally okay with peppermint capsuals as I used to take the ones from holland and barratt so I wonder if it was the coating that I/We had a reaction too rather than the peppermint itself?

I am just taking charcoal tablets from holland and barratt which help asborb wind - they do make your poo darker (So if you try them don't panic!) as for my cramps, I am stopping all caffiene as it is a stimulant and drinking more water and herbal tea to soften my stools.

Hope this helps xx

I felt ok before taking them. It just aggravated my bowels so much. I've had my appendix removed. My bowels feel like they're on fire. I've been sick after taking them. I can drink peppermint tea without any problems. I'm usually constipated on and off up to my period. I've never gone to the toilet with solid stools so many times in one day. I usually go once a day every few days which is normal for me. My stomach is bloated most of the time before taking them and the tight feeling is worse after taking them. I hope the pressure pains in my stomach calm down soon. I still feel sick and I hope it wears off soon. I'm getting a lot of acid coming up when burping too. I'm not taking anymore. xx

Hi hun,

I have IBS too and take peppermint oil tablets. I also take mebeverine which is an anti spasmodic tablet which helps with the tightness ect, might be worth asking your gp for some, it will help.

How long have you been taking these tablets for because if you're only going once every couple of days this might just be the tablets clearing your system out after a long time of constipation. You should go at least twice a day. Unfortunately I have the opposite problem, I go up to 20 times in a day mainly before midday. I wake up in the morning with severe cramps and painful wind, then I'm on and off the loo all morning, sometimes all day. I also get lumps in my abdomen which my gp tells me is solid food in my bowel. This can cause your stools to be long and thin as it's having to squeeze past the semi-blockage.

IBS is something the gp's don't really know anything about. It's an umbrella term for "something wrong with the digestive system". The drugs they give you are all trial and error so if you really aren't getting on with the tablets you're on then go back and see your GP, there are loads of different tablets for IBS depending on your symptoms.

Hope I've shed some light for you and I hope you feel better soon

Hello ladies,

Sorry for the late reply. I've been in hospital since Monday and was discharged yesterday. My GP admitted me as an emergency. I vomitted in the surgery twice. This hormone treatment isn't helping either. I've been vomiting and feeling sick. I've been bleeding for 10 days and cramping and endo symptoms are getting worse. I don't feel like eating with the pain. I'm not taking colpermin any more. I've been given LA patches by the pain management nurse but I'm still getting pain where my appendix was plus period like pain with bleeding with clots. I'm wearing pre op stockings as my ankles have swelled up. I can't sit or hardly walk. I'm going to look for a endo specialist.

So sorry to hear you're still having a really rough time, hugs. I think you're doing the right thing looking for an endo specialist.

Hope you're having an ok day xxxxxxxxxx
